Album Review: 4batz – u made me a st4r
His first single was dope. But I pretty much always need to hear more than one single before I believe an artist’s hype, especially if Drake jumped on the bangwagon. After listening to 4batz’s debut album u made me a st4r, I’m sold on the buzz he’s getting.
What I really like about this album is that, while it’s definitely a super-modern R&B sound, a lot of the beats remind me of mid-late 90’s fusion hip hop/R&B. Specifically Aaliyah and Timbaland. I like that his next single, “act v: there goes another vase,” has the makings of classic R&B in my opinion.
“act v: there goes another vase”
While I still think he’s a little gimmicky for my taste, I can’t deny that this is not just a good R&B album, but an intoxicating one. It’s so lush. Even if you don’t wanna like it, you can help but be drawn in by these sounds. Strong 4/5 rating on my Vibe Scale.
“act vii: all we do is argue, argue”
“act vi: mad man”
Purple Disco Machine, Benjamin Ingrosso feat. Nile Rodgers & Shenseea – “Honey Boy”
This is an undeniable disco-inspired feel-good summer dance-pop hit. I rate Shenseea highly and I’m hoping this breaks through with the monster numbers to put her in that top-tier of streaming popularity.
Coco Jones – “Here We Go”
Timeless classic R&B is coming back and Coco Jones is one of the voices leading it.
Ravyn Lenae – “Love Me Not”
Her debut single “Free Room” a few years ago was unbelievable. Her debut album HYPNOS was widely-acclaimed. So no surprise there’s more quality here.
