I’m blown away by this week’s (May 3rd) Spotify New Music Friday playlist. By far the best week of new music so far this year. It has the most quality and potential hits all across the board. I’m usually happy if I like 5 out of the 100. For me to rate and feature more than a dozen tracks off one week’s selection is absolutely remarkable and exciting. Definitely gives me hope that there is more quality, originality and potential hits coming. Maybe labels were waiting for May to unleash their best? Maybe artists were a little more focused without their music on TikTok? Keep it up please.
new music friday
Gunna – “Whatsapp (Wassam)”
I think he’s the hottest rapper in the game right now.
Alec Benjamin – “Sacrifice Tomorrow”
I think this song could do huge numbers. Catchy upbeat folk meets pop track.
Purple Disco Machine, Benjamin Ingrosso feat. Nile Rodgers & Shenseea – “Honey Boy”
This is an undeniable disco-inspired feel-good summer dance-pop hit. I rate Shenseea highly and I’m hoping this breaks through with the monster numbers to put her in that top-tier of streaming popularity.
Coco Jones – “Here We Go”
Timeless classic R&B is coming back and Coco Jones is one of the voices leading it.
Kenyon Dixon – “Still”
Strange that this song isn’t on YouTube on it’s release date. But I can’t wait. This is a great song.
Lancey Foux – “Gotta Get U”
What a dope sample of Blackstreet and Foxy Brown’s classic R&B hit “Get Me Home”.
Bazzi – “F U”
He’s got monster numbers on Spotify for a reason.
Meghan Trainor – “To The Moon”
She’s somewhat predictable. But she has a knack for catchy hits and I respect her wholesome appeal. She’s been consistently on Billboard Pop Charts for 10 years now, so she deserves some credit.
